Summer To Do List

May 18 2010 Published by under Uncategorized

Fearlessness is the theme of the upcoming summer.

It started on Friday, after I got my TWA* trimmed (it is now a TWWA*) and I rode down the freeway with the windows down–which is awesome when you’re not concerned with disheveled hair–and I began to think. “Hmmm. This breeze feels great. What else have I shied away from doing for the sake of my hair. Hey, wait a minute. I can finally learn to swim.”

Over the next few days, random thoughts invaded my mind. They sounded like this:

Perhaps it’s time I finally got that tattoo…

I should learn another language.

I wonder if there are some classes/workshops I can take on writing/web design/social media marketing to make myself more marketable?

Should I start video blogging?

And so the wheels in my head began to turn. The last two summers of my life were spent building up Polished, partying, falling into and out of love with The Beau and falling in and out of like with a few others. The days were warm, carefree and fun. This upcoming summer feels different. Since cutting my hair, I’ve been complimented often on my boldness. I want to take my newfound bravado and inject it into every area of my life. Learn new things. Embrace my talents. Live fearlessly.

So here is my Summer To Do List. This isn’t a finite list. I may add more tasks as I think of them.

  • Blog everyday. I figure if I aim to blog daily, I’ll at least crank out a good 4-5 posts a week. Some posts may be trash, some may be great. Either way, I need the practice.
  • Get a tattoo.  Shoutout to my homegirl @honeyybee for allowing me to bite her idea. I want to get the word “breathe” written in cursive on my right wrist. I need a subtle and immediate reminder to relax. No need for worry. I’ve got this.
  • Learn to speak Italian. Yes, Spanish would be more practical. I’ll get around to learning it eventually. Italian, however, excites me more and so I will be learning it first.
  • Learn to swim.
  • Start a video blogging series. If you look at the Navigation Tab, you’ll notice a new page, SBG Speaks. Yup. I’m adding vlogging to the repertoire. (Please excuse the post that’s currently there. It was for practice purposes. I promise they’ll get better.)
  • Master a new sexual position. #dontjudgeme
  • Complete an online writing course. A free one.
  • Pick an organization and sign up to do volunteer work.
  • Read Ralph Ellison’s “Invisible Man.” I’ve been trying to read this book since I graduated college four years ago. I’m going to sit down and read it cover to cover.

So there it is folks. My Summer To Do List. I’ll keep you posted as I begin to check these off.
